Watchman Jeremy toby jug produced by Westminster Pottery of Hanley, England, circa 1950. A Watchman was hired to guard a village or building to deter thieves while also ensuring the safety of the people, buildings, stables, horses, and carriages. With his lantern in his left hand and walking stick in his right, Jeremy is beginning to make his evening rounds throughout the village. Jeremy's right arm and walking stick form the handle of the jug.
