Warthog character jug medium - France circa 1910

Warthog medium sized majolica character jug produced in France circa 1910. The warthog is a wild member of the pig family found in grassland, savanna, and woodland in sub-Saharan Africa. The warthog is a medium-sized species. It is identifiable by the two pairs of tusks protruding from the mouth and curving upwards. The lower pair, which is far shorter than the upper pair, becomes razor-sharp by rubbing against the upper pair every time the mouth is opened and closed. Depicted on both sides of the jug are peasants holding a jar of salt in their hands to preserve their recently slaughtered warthog. The warthog is wearing a bib in preparation for a feast with a banner around the pitcher reading "Tout en est bon" or "All is good". He is marked 66 on the bottom.
