Totem Mug character jug produced by Shorter & Son of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1960. A totem is a natural object or animal that is believed by a particular society to have spiritual significance and that is adopted by it as an emblem. This totem mug is designed in the form of a tiki mug depiecting a Polynesian god or mythical warrior. It is an advertising piece for Butlin's Beachcomber, the Tiki bar at Butlin's Holiday Camp located at Clacton-on-Sea in England. This is the larger of two known sizes with the small size Totem Mug stands 3 3/4" tall.
