The Thinker figurine - Kevin Francis 2016

The Thinker figurine produced by Kevin Francis Ceramics of Stoke-on-Trent, England, in a 2016 limited edition of 100. Banksy monkeys have become an instantly recognizable motif in the graffiti writer's oeuvre. He cleverly uses monkeys to make political points from all angles. For Banksy, the monkey functions as a symbol for humans. With the Thinker, he criticizes the kind of person who acts according to norms and rules without evaluating them and making their own decisions. Individual behaviors are subjected to social and political constraints. Banksy's Thinker was derived from the Auguste Rodin bronze sculpture The Thinker whose pose is one of deep thought and contemplation. Rodin's statue is often used as an image to represent philosophy.
