The McCallum character jug produced by Wade Ceramics of Burslem, England, in a limited edition of 750 circa 1950. The McCallum character jug was produced as a promotional item for the D&J McCallum Distillery in Scotland. McCallum is a Scottish surname, meaning in Gaelic "Son of Columba", with a long history. One of the earliest records of the name was Reginald MacCallum of Corbarron who was made the hereditary constable of Craignish Castle in 1414. Today the name is commonly found through Ulster and the western isles of Scotland. The McCallum image has been a key part of the distillery's branding for many years. Wade Ceramics made The McCallum character jug in four sizes - large, medium, small and miniature - with this one being the medium size. Many different potteries were commissioned to make The McCallum jug.
