The McCallum character jug in an ivory finish produced by produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, circa 1930. The McCallum character jug was produced as a promotional item for the D&J McCallum Distillery in Scotland. McCallum is a Scottish surname, meaning in Gaelic "Son of Columba", with a long history. One of the earliest records of the name was Reginald MacCallum of Corbarron who was made the hereditary constable of Craignish Castle in 1414. Today the name is commonly found through Ulster and the western isles of Scotland. The McCallum image has been a key part of the distillery's branding for many years. Only 1,000 of these jugs were produced in the ivory finish. The jug exists in different colorways and was produced by other manufacturers from an almost identical design.
