The March Hare character jug - Royal Doulton 1989-1991

The March Hare character jug modeled by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1989-1991. One of the highly imaginative characters in Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", the March Hare was clearly inspired by the saying "mad as a March hare" which alludes to the frenzied activities of the male hare during March, its mating season. This mad March Hare apparently remains so all year round and is every bit as mad as his friend, the Mad Hatter. The famous Wonderland tea party takes place in the March Hare's garden where the time is always six o'clock; his home is described as having chimneys shaped like ears and a roof thatched with fur. The March Hare's left ear forms the handle of the jug.
