The King's Dilemma toby jug - Lady Grace China 1996

The King's Dilemma toby jug produced by Lady Grace China of Staffordshire, England, in 1996 a limited edition of 350. Also known as the Edward and Wallis Jug, this toby jug commemorates the 60th anniversary of the abdication of the English throne by King Edward VIII in favor of Wallis Simpson. Edward VIII (1894 - 1972), later known as the Duke of Windsor, was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire and Emperor of India from January 20, 1936, until his abdication in December of the same year. Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, (1896 - 1986) was an American socialite and wife of the former King Edward VIII. Their intention to marry and her status as a divorcee caused a constitutional crisis that led to Edward's abdication. After his abdication, Edward was named Duke of Windsor. He married Simpson in France on June 3, 1937, after her second divorce became final. He and Wallis remained married until his death in 1972. Wallis Simpson forms the handle of the jug. The jug was modeled by Ray Noble.
