The Ice Queen toby jug - Royal Doulton 1997

The Ice Queen toby jug designed by Martyn C. R. Alcock and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1997 limited edition of 1,500 for Lawleys By Post. Alongside her husband the Fire King, the Ice Queen punishes her subjects by using her flask of snow gems, or ice crystals, to turn wrong doers into frozen statues of ice, standing for all time as a reminder of the stern justice in the land. A quite different image of the Ice Queen emerges in the sixth chapter of Katherine Pyle's popular 1895 children's book, "The Counterpane Fairy". Here, she is the enemy of the Fire King and is melted by his magic chain. The Ice Queen toby jug is a pair with the Fire King toby jug.
