The Cook and the Cheshire Cat character jug - Royal Doulton 1990-1991

The Cook and the Cheshire Cat character jug modeled by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1990-1991. The Cook and the Cheshire Cat are comical characters from Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and this jug is based on the original illustrations of John Tenniel. This irrepressible pair is a part of the Duchess's household. The temperamental Cook could swing from carefully preparing a meal into a wild whirlwind, throwing dishes and utensils at all nearby. The Cheshire Cat had a perpetual broad grin on its face and a bad habit of disappearing, leaving only its grin behind. Alice encounters both characters during her visit through the looking glass, having less than positive experiences with both. The Cheshire Cat forms the handle of the jug.
