The Colonel character jug produced by Longton New Art Pottery of Longton, England, circa 1955 using its Kelsboro Ware tradename. The Colonel is a character from Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations". He is a former soldier and prisoner in Newgate Prison for counterfeiting. Described in the novel as "A Coiner, a very good workman. The Recorder's report is made to-day, and he is sure to be executed on Monday."
