The Captain character jug modeled by Timothy Potts and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 2006 limited edition of 1,500. On July 30, 1966, at London's Wembley Stadium, a determined English soccer team defeated a West German team in overtime by a score of 4-2 to claim the World Cup, arguably England's finest moment in the sport. The squad was captained by Bobby Moore, an excellent defender and perhaps England's finest captain, and led in scoring by inexperienced replacement Geoff Hurst's three goals, two of which were in overtime. The game was not without controversy as three of the five goals scored, one for West Germany and two for England, were challenged. The Captain, along with Hat Trick Hero, was produced to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of England's 1966 soccer World Cup victory. The jug is produced in the likeness of Bobby Moore, the experienced captain who successfully led the team to victory in the World Cup final. The World Cup trophy and British flag form the handle of the jug.
