The British Bulldog toby jug - Kevin Francis Ceramics 1990

The British Bulldog toby jug modeled by Andy Moss and produced by Kevin Francis Ceramics of Stoke-on-Trent, England, in a 1990 limited edition of 500 in association with UKI Ceramics. The British bulldog embodies British values, seeing it as a courageous and determined animal. The fictional character John Bull, another symbol of England, was often depicted with a bulldog. By World War II, the bulldog took center stage as the symbol of British tenacity. Britain's famous wartime prime minister, Winston Churchill, was nicknamed the "British Bulldog". With his jowly face and portly figure, Churchill did look a little bit like a bulldog, but he was also famous for refusing to give up the fight against the Nazis. A bulldog puppy forms the handle of jug.
