Standing Toby stoneware toby jug with brown waistcoat and white jacket modeled by Harry Simeon and produced by Royal Doulton of Lambeth, England, between 1924 and 1929. The Standing Toby is a variation of the Ordinary Toby. Instead of being seated, this toper stands upright, still clasping his beloved mug of stingo ale in one hand and a beaker in the other. Many variations of the stoneware Standing Toby exist. He can be found with a smiling or somber face; dressed usually in a blue jacket and orange, brown or green waistcoat, but occasionally other colors; finished in a light or dark glaze; and with or without a silver rim. Model 8573 jugs have somber faces. Examples of model H57 can be found in an overall buff glaze or a green and beige glaze with a brown finish. Four sizes are known to exist with this being the largest.
