Standing Toby jug - Sharpe Brothers circa 1885

Standing Toby jug produced in a majolica finish by Sharpe Brothers of Swadlincote, England circa 1885. This Standing Toby is a drunken sot wearing the traditional everyday garb of the late 1700s including the long frock coat, buttoned vest, knee breeches, buckle shoes and tricorn hat. He is holding a foaming pint of his favorite ale in both hands to ensure he does not spill a drop. The Standing Toby is a pair with the Standing Woman.
