St Bertie face pot prototype trial colorway produced by Kevin Francis Ceramics of Stoke-on-Trent, England, 2001. Bertie the bulldog is a British breed of dog of mastiff type. Bulldog's are a medium sized, muscular dog with large heads with a thick folds of skin around the face and shoulders. While often used as a symbol of ferocity and courage, modern bulldogs are generally friendly, amiable dogs. With his face pot quote, "Heaven goes by favour If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in", is a famous quote of Mark Twain's.
