Sodden and Sobriety teapot - Royal Doulton 2003

Sodden and Sobriety two-sided teapot modeled by Anthony Cartlidge and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 2003 limited edition of 1,500. Being sodden, or drunk, is the state of being intoxicated with alcohol to a degree sufficient to impair mental and motor functioning. Common symptoms may include impaired speech, loss of balance and other effects. A person who is habitually intoxicated in this manner is labeled an alcoholic, often referred to as a drunk or drunkard. Of course sodden is the common state for Toby Philpot, the patriarch of the Toby Jug. Sobriety is solemn or dignified personal behavior, in particular moderation or abstinence with regard to the consumption of alcoholic beverages or other drugs. This example of sobriety is a teetotaler to the arrogant extreme. A large feather forms the handle of the teapot while a bottle of stout beer forms the spout.
