Snookums toby jug produced by Schafer & Vater of Rudolstadt, Germany, circa 1925. Snookums was the precocious baby in the comic strip "The Newlyweds", created by cartoonist George McManus in 1904. Snookums made his first appearance in 1907. The comic strip explored the comedic aspects of that period of time when couples are most deliriously in love, i.e., between tying the knot and the end of the honeymoon.
