Smoker character jug - Germany circa 1935

Smoker character jug tankard designed by Reinhold Hanke and produced in Germany circa 1935. This Bavarian villager is relaxing at his favorite pub and enjoying his favorite pipe. The jug is inscribed "Die Kohl Kost Viel", meaning "The Throat Costs a Lot". The character jug is stamped "Gesetzlich geschuzt" meaning registered in German. Ware marked in this way is commonly referred to as Ges Gesch ware.
