Skull character jug creamer - Royal Bayreuth circa 1920

Skull creamer character jug produced by Royal Tettau Porcelain Factory of Bavaria, Germany, circa 1920 using its Royal Bayreuth tradename. The skull is a bone protective cavity for the brain. The skull is composed of four types of bone i.e., cranial bones, facial bones, ear ossicles and hyoid bone. The most common symbolic use of the skull is as a representation of death, mortality and the unachievable nature of immortality. A skull is also used in magic rituals. Other bones form the handle of this jug.
