Skull character jug - JP Mikita 1976

Skull character jug produced by and incised JP Mikita in 1976. The skull is a bone protective cavity for the brain. The skull is composed of four types of bone i.e., cranial bones, facial bones, ear ossicles and hyoid bone. The most common symbolic use of the skull is as a representation of death, mortality and the unachievable nature of immortality. A skull is also used in magic rituals.
