Sir Henry Doulton & Michael Doulton character jug modeled by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1992 special edition for Michael Doulton's personal appearances. This is a two-sided character jug featuring Sir Henry Doulton, the son of the founder of Royal Doulton, on one side, and his great-grandson, Michael Doulton, on the other. One of the greatest Victorian entrepreneurs, Henry Doulton (1820-1897), achieved outstanding success for the pottery founded by his father, John Doulton. Michael Doulton (1943- ) is a fifth-generation descendant of John Doulton, the founder of the Royal Doulton Company in 1815. Michael is the only Doulton family member to remain active in the company. For many years he has acted as the company's ambassador, touring and participating in special events worldwide. This jug presents the past and present of the Royal Doulton Company and is one of only two two-faced jugs made in the small size. The jug was issued in a special edition to mark Michael Doulton's personal appearances at retail locations. A flag with the Royal Doulton lion and crown backstamp appear on both sides of the handle of this jug.
