Simon the Cellarer character jug - Royal Doulton 1935-1960

Simon the Cellarer character jug modeled by Charles J. Noke and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1935-1960. Possessing the keys to the wine cellar, this Elizabethan fellow is someone worth befriending! Immortalized in a popular nineteenth century drinking song by W. H. Bellamy, Simon, a wine-taster of high order and much capacity, was fortunate to have in his cellar Malmsey, Malvoisie, Cyprus and other wines. Perhaps some friendly persuasion might induce him to share the secrets of his pleasurable trade! A set of keys form the handle of this jug. Along with this large size jug, small size (D5616), and miniature size (D6956) were also produced.
