Scrooge toby jug - Staffordshire Fine Ceramics circa 1985

Scrooge toby jug produced by Staffordshire Fine Ceramics of Tunstall, England, circa 1975. Scrooge is the elderly man with a heart of stone from Dickens' novel "A Christmas Carol". Probably Charles Dickens' best-known character, the miserly Scrooge, with his familiar cry of "Bah, Humbug!", is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, who sends three more spirits, or ghosts of Christmas, in hopes of reforming Scrooge's heartless and penny-pinching ways. Scrooge will not let his downtrodden partner leave work to return to his family for the Christmas holiday. After visits by the three ghosts on Christmas Eve, Scrooge finds compassion in his heart and changes his ways. The long tail of Scrooge's night cap forms the handle of the jug. This Scrooge toby jug was produced from original Burgess & Leigh molds.
