Satyr toby jug produced in Staffordshire, England, circa 1890. In Greek mythology Satyr were creatures of the wild who were part man and part beast. In the Hellenistic age they were represented as men having a goat's legs and tail. This Satyr has pointed ears, horns and cloven feet. A tree branch forms the handle of the jug.
