Saved stoneware matchstand produced by Royal Doulton of Lambeth, England, circa 1890. A sailor, seaman, mariner, or seafarer is a person who works aboard a watercraft as part of its crew and may work in any one of a number of different fields that are related to the operation and maintenance of a ship. This sailor has traveled the world and has many tales to tell. This sailor has fallen overboard and was saved when a fellow mate threw him a life preserver. The word Saved is written on top of the life preserver. The English registration number 162582 on the bottom dates the design to 1890.
