Rooster toby jug - Shaw & Sons circa 1960

Rooster toby jug produced by Shaw & Sons of Tunstall, England, circa 1960 using its Burlington Ware tradename. A rooster is an adult male chicken, which is a domesticated junglefowl species. People now keep chickens primarily as a source of food and as pets. Traditionally they were also bred for cockfighting, which is still practiced in some places. This Rooster toby jug is produced in the style of Ditmer-Urbach.
