Rooster toby jug - Bassano Pottery circa 1970

Rooster toby jug produced by Bassano Pottery of Italy circa 1970. A rooster is an adult male chicken, which is a domesticated junglefowl species. People now keep chickens primarily as a source of food and as pets. Traditionally they were also bred for cockfighting, which is still practiced in some places. The rooster's long tail feathers form the handle of the jug.
