Rooster for Revenge toby jug - Desvres circa 1880

Rooster for Revenge majolica toby jug produced by Desvres circa 1880 model number 298. A national symbol of France the Coq Gaulois or Gallic Rooster decorated the French flag during the Revolution. Rooster for Revenge was produced to protest the 1870 Prussian War. The banner across his front reads "Je Chante Clair" translated as "I sing clearly." A smaller size is known as well as colorways.
