Romany-Female toby jug - Royal Doulton 1999

Romany-Female toby jug designed by David B. Biggs and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1999 limited edition of 2,500 for Lawleys by Post. The Romany reached Europe in the Middle Ages and spread slowly across the continent, arriving in some western countries in the 14th or 15th century. Gypsies by choice, adventurous and colorful in dress and lifestyle, the fascinating Romany people have inspired this toby jug. The Romany couple captures the romantic and carefree lives of these traveling folk. They are gypsies traveling freely across the land, speaking their own language and telling fortunes. The Romany Female is a fortune teller and musician.
