Rasta toby jug - Maria Alvarez Echenique 2019

Rasta toby jug produced by Maria Alvarez Echenique of London, England, in 2019 as a unique piece of artwork in The Subcultures of Hackney Series. The Rasta toby jug has the Rastaman's typical dreadlocked hair and tam hat. He is sitting on a large speaker like those used in Reggae Sound systems. The speaker and handle are adorned with images of some classic Rastafarian album covers. He is drinking Jamaican ginger beer and holding a marijuana joint. Hackney is a vibrant multicultural part of inner London, and Rastafarians are highly visible and an active community within Hackney with their sound systems livening up local carnivals and festivals.
