Rangers Football Supporter character jug modeled by Stanley J. Taylor and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1992-1999. The Glasgow Rangers FC started life as Argyle, founded in 1873 by the McNeil brothers. Argyle was renamed Rangers, after an English rugby club. Fleshers Haugh, on Glasgow Green, was the first choice as the home of the "light blues." The first League game was played on August 16, 1890. They achieved success in the Scottish Cup, winning in 1894, 1897, and 1898. After World War I, Rangers dominated Scottish football, winning the championship fifteen times in twenty-one years, under the management of first William Wilton and then the legendary William Struth. The latter managed the club for thirty-four years, winning eighteen League Championships, ten Scottish Cups and two League cups. The Scottish League Cup was introduced after World War II and Rangers became the first team to achieve the illustrious Treble in 1949. The club played in Europe for the first time in 1956-57 when they participated in the European Cup. Rangers have won fifty-one league titles during their history. A team colored scarf forms the handle of the jug.
