Rabbit toby jug - Orchies circa 1900

Rabbit majolica toby jug produced by Orchies of Orchies, France, circa 1900. This hungry rabbit has harvested a large carrot that he holds tightly in his paws. He is headed home to cook up a carrot stew in the pot he carries on his right side. A tree branch forms the handle of the jug. Orchies model numbers are a combination of letters and numbers. The letters are an abbreviation for the name of the jug and the number is the size of the jug. This jug is incised with the designer's name, Foubert, on his right foot. There are several known colorways of the Rabbit toby jug. Photo of the blue rabbit is from the collection of Jean-Pierre Ducasse.
