Punch character jug - Shaw and Copestake circa 1950

Punch character toby jug produced by Shaw and Copestake of Longton, England, circa 1940 using its SylvaC tradename. From the popular English puppet show Punch & Judy, Punch is often found hitting other members of his party with his stick. The puppet show generally features Punch interacting with a series of characters in a variety of mishaps. Even his doting wife Judy cannot keep him from mischief. Punch's ever present stick forms the handle of the jug.
