Prince Hal Toby jug - Ralph Wood circa 1790

Prince Hal toby jug produced by Ralph Wood circa 1790. Prince Hal is the common name of a young Henry V of England in Shakespeare's portrayal of the prince before his accession to the throne. He is portrayed as a wayward youth who enjoys the society of petty criminals and wastrels. This depiction draws on exaggerations of the historical Prince Henry's supposed youthful behavior.
