Policeman 3/4 body toby jug produced in Germany circa 1910 and marked Ges Gesch. A policeman is a member of the local or municipal police force. His duties include protecting life and property through the enforcement of laws and regulations, proactively patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls for police service, conducting preliminary and follow-up criminal and traffic investigations, preparing written reports and field notes of investigations and patrol activities, arresting and processing criminals, and testifying in court. The mark Ges Gesch is short for "Gesetzlich geschuzt" meaning registered in German. Ware marked in this way is commonly referred to as Ges Gesch ware.
