Policeman character jug - Audley Porcelain circa 1975

Policeman character jug modeled by Diana Capener and produced by Audley Porcelain of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1975 using its Studio D trademark. Racing through the streets of London in his squad car, this Metropolitan policeman needs to be an exceedingly competent driver. The piercing siren warns of his approach, but he must still weave in and out of the traffic at high speeds in order to reach the scene of the crime as quickly as possible. Handcuffs and truncheon beside him, the policeman is all prepared to make another successful arrest upon his arrival. There are fifty-two police forces in Britain, mainly organized on a local basis, and comprising about 150,000 full-time police officers, of whom about twelve percent are women. The Metropolitan Police Force and the City of London Force are responsible for policing London. The heart of policing is the work done by police constables, who are in constant contact with the public, patrolling the streets on foot or in cars. The policeman's truncheon forms the handle of the jug.
