Pirate and Captain teapot - Royal Doulton 2003

Pirate and Captain two-sided teapot modeled by Anthony Cartlidge and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 2003 limited edition of 1,500. A pirate is one who robs or plunders at sea without a commission from a recognized sovereign nation. Pirates usually target other ships, but also attack targets on shore. These acts are known as piracy. This is a pirate typical of the eighteenth century Caribbean. A Captain is one who commands, leads, or guides others. The title is common for an officer in command of a ship. Captain is the customary title given to the person in charge of a ship at sea. A nautical "captain" may be a civilian or a naval commissioned officer of any rank. In this case the Captain is the commander of a seventeenth century British ship whose duty it is to patrol the waters of the Atlantic, protecting the shipping lanes and enforcing the laws of the Crown, stamping out piracy when encountered. A skull and crossbones forms the handle of the teapot while a treasure map forms the spout.
