Pig toby jug large - Orchies circa 1900

Pig large majolica toby jug produced by Orchies of Orchies, France, circa 1900. This wise pig wears a laurel wreath as a symbol of his intelligence. He has escaped the butcher for the moment, hopefully the ham at his side is not a relative. The laurel wreath forms the handle of the jug. Orchies model numbers are a combination of letters and numbers. The letters are an abbreviation for the name of the jug and the number is the size of the jug. This jug is known in two sizes with this one being the larger. Photo of the pink pig is from the collection of Jean-Pierre Ducasse.
