Pearly Girl character jug blue coat colorway - Royal Doulton 1947

Pearly Girl character jug in a blue coat colorway modeled by Harry Fenton and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in 1947. Pearly Girl is a name coined by collectors for the original colorway of the 'Arriet jug. After about a year, when it was decided by Doulton to modify the 'Arry jug from its original design, the 'Arriet jug was given a similar color makeover to correspond to the new 'Arry color. With the original pearl-hatted 'Arry now referred to by collectors as Pearly Boy, it was only natural to affix the Pearly Girl name to the original 'Arriet colorway. Apparently the coat was given the first change, as Pearly Girl can be found with her original colorful plumed hat and the new brown 'Arriet coat. All Pearly Girls are quite rare, with brown-coated versions more rare than the blue coated ones. All Pearly Girls carry the 'Arriet backstamp. The feather of the hat forms the handle of the jug. These photos show both the large and small (D6236) sizes.
