A parakeet is any one of many small to medium-sized species of parrot that generally has long tail feathers. Parakeets comprise about 115 species of birds that are seed-eating parrots of small size, slender build, and long, tapering tails. The Australian budgerigar, also known as "budgie", is probably the most common parakeet. It was first described by zoologists in 1891 and is the most popular species of parakeet kept as a pet in North America and Europe. The parakeet's wings fold back to form the handle of the jug. This is the smallest of three known sizes of Parakeet jugs with the water pitcher standing 6 1/2" tall and the milk pitcher standing 4 1/2" tall.
