Mr. Pickwick large toby jug - Kevin Francis Ceramics circa 2001

Mr. Pickwick large toby jug modeled by Andy Moss and produced by Peggy Davies Ceramics for Kevin Francis Ceramics of Stoke-on-Trent, England, in a 2001 Guild Toby limited edition. The adventures of Mr. Samuel Pickwick and the other members of the Corresponding Society of the Pickwick Club form the plot of Charles Dickens' novel "The Pickwick Papers", published in 1836. A bald headed and bespectacled man, the eloquent Pickwick is General Chairman of the club he founded. A Corresponding Society is formed to report to the Club the adventures and journeys of the Society members and observations of character and manners. The kind hearted, unworldly Pickwick gets into a number of scrapes, including being sent to court in a breach of promise suite brought by Mrs. Bardell and a resulting spell in Fleet prison. This experience dampens the spirit and usual good humor of Mr. Pickwick, but one released he lives contentedly, following learned pursuits.
