Monkey toby jug - Shorter & Son circa 1950

Monkey toby jug produced by Shorter & Son of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1950. Monkey is a common name that may refer to most mammals of the infraorder Simiiformes, also known as the simians. Traditionally, all animals in the group now known as simians are counted as monkeys except the apes, which constitutes an incomplete paraphyletic grouping. This Monkey is sitting and reaching around the leaves that are on the tree behind him. A bamboo pole forms the handle of the jug.
