Marriage Day mid-size stoneware character jug with blue and brown hats colorway modeled by Harry Simeon and produced by Royal Doulton of Lambeth, England, between 1924 and 1929. This curious and comical jug portrays a woman's life on the day of her marriage as one filled with happiness. After marriage, however, the jug is turned upside down and the lady's smile turns to a frown as she has a new outlook on life. Conversely, the tiny size most commonly is found with the upside depicting the unhappy wife and upside down turning to smiles. All sizes have been found with the smiling side contrary to normal, but these would be considered rare. Models X8596 are a second version with a fatter face and model X7890 is a small size in cream colorway.
