Lobster Man character jug large - Royal Doulton 1968-1991

Lobster Man large character jug modeled by David B. Biggs and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1968-1991. Because humans consider the lobster an edible delicacy, it is the task of the lobsterman to harvest this nocturnal creature from the shallow seas around the shore. As it scuttles along the ocean bottom with its large pincers, snapping up small shellfish and even live fish, the lobster is lured with fish bait into specially constructed lobster pots. At the break of each day, in all types of weather, the lobsterman laboriously hauls each of his pots from the depths to discover his catch. He can be found plying his trade from Labrador to North Carolina in North America, as well as off the coasts of Ireland and Norway in Europe. A freshly caught lobster forms the handle of this jug.
