Liverpool Centenary Jug character jug - Royal Doulton 1992

Liverpool Centenary Jug character jug modeled by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1992 limited edition of 5,500. The Liverpool Centenary Jug features the Liverpool Football Club's most famous manager, the late Bill Shankly (1913-1981). Shankly became a professional footballer in 1932 when he signed with Carlisle United, and within a year he had moved onwards and upwards to Preston North End. A distinguished playing career that brought seven caps for Scotland unfortunately was interrupted by war in 1939. When football resumed in 1946, Shankly was thirty-three and rapidly coming to the end of his playing days. He decided he would become the greatest football manager of all time, assuming managerial control of the Liverpool club in 1959 and leading it back to the first division in only three years. During his tenure as manager, Shankly led the team to three championship wins, two FA Cup wins and its first European trophy, the UEFA Cup. This jug celebrates the centenary of the Liverpool Football Club and the handle incorporates the Liverpool FC crest and two footballs.
