Lifeboatman character jug - David Sharp Pottery 1978

Lifeboatman character jug produced by David Sharp Pottery of Rye, England, 1978. A lifeboatman was a sailor who was trained and qualified to take charge of a lifeboat or life raft in case of emergency, saving the lives of the boat's passengers and crew. The Lifeboatman character jug was commissioned by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in 1978. However, when it was made, the RNLI did not move ahead with the production of the jug, so Sharp kept the design for himself.
