Leprechaun character jug - England circa 1960

Leprechaun character jug produced in England circa 1960. A leprechaun is a diminutive supernatural being in Irish folklore, classed by some as a type of solitary fairy. They are usually depicted as little bearded men, wearing a green coat and hat, who partake in mischief. In more recent times, they have been depicted as shoemakers who have a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. This is an advertising jug for Mad O'Rourkes's Little Pub Co. Colm O'Rourke's, known throughout much of the West Midlands as "Mad O'Rourke", Little Pub Company started as a one-pub operation and grown from there. The Little Pub Company Limited once held a chain of 21 local tenanted and managed freehold public houses. It was registered at Companies House on November 25th, 1985.
