Len Lifebelt The Lifeboatman toby jug - Royal Doulton 1989 - 1991

Len Lifebelt The Lifeboatman 3/4 body toby jug designed by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, from 1989 to 1991. In winter the seas to the east of Doultonville can be very rough and the weather very heavy. Many ships and small boats have been overwhelmed. It is then that the Doultonville lifeboat is launched into the fury of wind and waves. Len is the coxswain of the boat, responsible for the safety of crew, boat and the sailors in distress. A record 143 people have been saved, the lifeboat crews being specially commended for their bravery and seamanship. The crew is all volunteers. Many are Doultonville fishermen. Their wives and children wait anxiously for their return, while in the Seaman's Institute, retired lifeboat men reminisce about famous rescues. This is one of twenty-five Doultonville toby jugs.
