Larisa Foedorovna character jug - Royal Doulton 2009

Larisa Foedorovna character jug designed by Caroline Dadd and modeled by Robert I. Tabbenor, and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 2009 limited edition of 100 for UK International Ceramics. Larisa Feodorovna, also know as Lara Antipova, is a character in Boris Pasternak's novel "Doctor Zhivago". Lara is a young woman engaged to an idealistic Bolshevik reformer named Pasha, who while organizing a peaceful protest march with impoverished Russian workers is injured during a Czarist cavalry charge. She crosses paths with Doctor Yuri Zhivago with whom she runs a battlefield hospital on the Ukrainian front for six months. Lara and Yuri are smitten with one another but suppress their love for one another just as the war has ended. A hospital, Red Cross flag, and balalaika form the handle of the jug.
